More than 200 members of
the Texas Wing Civil Air Patrol, including
seven cadets from the Lackland Cadet Squadron, had a taste of boot camp
at Camp Swift in Bastrop during a recent training event.
The cadets reported for
the six-day training in which
they immediately
fell under the scrutiny and correction of squadron first sergeants,
flight commanders, flight sergeants, and other senior staff located
though out the base.
Upon inprocessing, the cadets had their
luggage searched and contraband
confiscated. During the training, flights worked on drill and cermony
procedures, attended self-defense classes and moral leadership
sessions, ran the confidence course and qualified with rifles.
Cadets were also allowed to view moon rooks that were
on loan from NASA.
On par with basic
military trainning, the cadets were
inspected each
day by the standards and evaluation training team. The SET team
inspected every bunk daily to ensure all proper measurements had been
taken and that the barracks were at the highest level of cleanliness.
The SET team also inspected each flight for uniform discrepancies.
Participants from the
Lackland Squadron included Cadet
Airmen Ronald
Earp; Cadet Airmen 1st Class Daniel Perez and Kaitlynn Jewell; and
Cadet Senior Airmen Brian Rankin, Damian Moulder, Nicole Miglis and
Kristopher Kerr.
Cadet Perez received
the Flight Honor Cadet award and
Cadet Kerr was
assigned to the flight that was named Honor Flight of the Encampment.
Running concurrently
with Encampment was the Ground
Search and Rescue Specialty School. The senior commandant, Capt.
Gregory Jensen, and cadet commandant, Cadet Lt. Col. Paul Rojas, were
both from Lackland Sqadron. GSARSS is used to qualify ground team
members as part of their ongoing traning in CAP.
