On 6 Apr 09, two members from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Westside Office, Post 8936, San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Julian Avendano,
Commander, and Mr. Jesse A. Mendoza, Senior Vice Commander, presented Cadet (C)/2d Lt Kristopher Kerr, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
of the United States, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Officer citation and medal award for special recognition of outstanding achievement and
exceptional leadership ability as a Cadet Officer. Cadet Katherine Sommers was presented the VFW of the United States, CAP Non-Commissioned
Officer (NCO) citation and medal award, for special recognition of outstanding achievement and exceptional leadership ability as a Cadet NCO.
The cadets were recognized for their involved in the Civil Air Patrol programs and the local community. Julian congratulated both cadets
and stressed to all the cadets to continue to stay involved, do the right things and keep up the good work. He stated he is very proud
of all the cadets.
