4 July 2007
SAN ANTONIO - It was July 4th, a day of celebration for our nations
independence. A day where neighbors have barbecues and families get
together. A day where firework stands are crowded all the way to our
streets.
But for four Lackland color guard cadets, it was a day of
presenting our nations colors. And it was not easy for them, but they
did manage to pull through; so did the whole neighborhood of Monte
Vista Historical Association, the largest historical district in
Texas, as they marched in the rain with police escorts all the way to
the Monte Vista retirement home, in San Antonio, Texas, where there
was food, fun, and plenty of excitement. Although there was a constant
downpour of rain, everyone managed to keep there spirits high.
The four person color guard team consisted of the following cadets:
Cadet/Staff Sergeant (C/SSgt) Daniel Perez, Cadet/Staff Sergeant
(C/SSgt) Kristopher Kerr, Cadet/Senior Airman (C/SrA) Nicole Miglis
and Cadet/Chief Master Sergeant (C/CMSgt) Colleen Rojas who led the
formation. The color guard from the Lackland Cadet Squadron also had
the honor of leading the march. So with nearly 100 people following
behind, the Lackland cadets marched a half-mile through the flooded
streets in perfect step to the retirement home.
Although they were all drenched in water, the Lackland cadets received constant praise
and thanks from everyone. They were even invited to come again next
year and lead the march once more. It goes to show you that even four
cadets can make an entire 100 people feel so proud to be an American.
